Helena Lane Skincare

My skin has never looked better. Seriously.

There are a number of factors at play:
1. I’m still breastfeeding. (For once in my life hormones are acting in my skin’s favour!)
2. I cut out all dairy (with exception to a few tastes here and there) because of my son’s eczema.

I agree, these are two MAJOR factors. BUT I’m also sleep deprived, stressed with moving and renovating my condo, and not eating as well as I should. Considering all of these things, my skin is feeling great and I would like to give some credit to Helena Lane Skincare.

I’ve had my eye on these products for a while and so I’m excited to finally have had a chance to take them for a spin thanks to Helena, the company’s founder.

Cleanser

The Helena Lane Cleanser is really a ‘balm’. Meaning it’s made up of oils and waxes, and contains no water. Cleansing balms are actually my favourite way to cleanse. They’re less messy than a liquid oil cleanser, and very comforting , especially in the colder winter months. Cleansing balms are also great for removing eye makeup!

I’ve fallen in love with other cleansing balms, but never stuck with them because they contained coconut oil (as most of cleansing balms do). Fortunately, this one is a jojoba oil base, which is great for all skin concerns, including acne. There are 3 different kinds, I’m using the Chamomile & Mandarin, which smells so nice!

Benefits of a cleansing balm :

  • won’t strip the skin of natural oils
  • less messy than oil cleansing
  • more effective at removing makeup

Hyaluronic Acid Serum

Helena Lane Hyaluronic Acid Serum | elodiebeauty.com Helena Lane Hyaluronic Acid Serum is the hydrating power of this skincare line. For any healthy skincare regime, you need a combo of hydrating water soluble ingredients + nourishing and protecting oils. I love the face that Helena Lane makes a serum as part of the product line. Depending on what your skin needs on any given day, it gives you the option to layer your products.

If you’re familiar with hyaluronic acid, it’s a clear odourless liquid. I’ve tried some that are thinner in consistency than others, but I like this one. Not too thin and not too thick, and absorbs quickly. It has a slight sticky feeling which is normal. That’s the hydrating magic and will go away once you apply your moisturizer or oil.

Moisturizer

The Helena Lane moisturizers (4 in all) are water-free, essentially like a face “balm”. I’ve never routinely used a balm and have always opted for a traditional oil + water moisturizer.

These moisturizers are a mix of shea butter, oil, and essential oils. I was reluctant at first since I usually stay away from ingredients like shea for fear of it being too “heavy”. Shea butter actually has antibacterial and healing properties though and is rich in vitamins A & E.

After applying a few drops of serum for hydration, I apply a pea-sized amount of moisturizer to lock everything in. It leaves my skin incredibly soft!

Even if you traditionally have oily or acne-prone skin, I wouldn’t discount this moisturizer. Try the Argan & Ylang Ylang version.

A little goes a long way!

Helena Lane tip: If you can still feel moisturizer on your skin after 5 minutes, you’ve used too much. Our skin only absorbs what it needs.
